Site Evaluation: Georgetown Public Library

Programs, services, and resources as compared to Helen Hall:

E-government: Kicking our behinds!  The "government politics and law" page under "reference" is amazing
Social service referral: Lots of handouts, should have a page under reference.
ILS provider/enhancements: Biblionix Apollo, no RFID
Gaming programs/equipment/devices: Saw a child check out a Wii Controller
Mobile app: Website sales well, otherwise it's just overdrive
Community engagement programs and services: At least four simultaneous art exhibits were hanging, regular concert series on schedule.  Holocaust education speakers’ bureau.
Children's STEM programming: Paid science programs 25% of SRP
Adult/Teen STEM programming: bots.
Adult/Teen Recreational programming: Semi-monthly coloring circle.  Teen "Escape the library" end of summer party.  Teen "kid for a day" program.
Device checkout and/or support: wii controller checkout,  E-reader help.
Electronic resources: Texshare and Overdrive plus 8 more including Ancestry and A to Z
e-Book platform: Overdrive.  Getting rid of Zinio
Robotics: Teen program (one - off)
Is hotspot,/circulates hotspots: WI-FI was good
Business programs, services, equipment: Business recommended sites page is good, otherwise they have what we have except has microfilm but no scanning
Staff-generated content : Reference list of recommended websites
Merchandising: all display space is full of art
Materials collected: Only thing they have that we don't is Teen DVD anime collection
Friends/Foundation activity, Board/advocacy: No benefits to Friends.  Gigantic used bookstore. Sponsorship at named areas. (Memorial/ Corporate?)
Organization/arrangement/access of materials: Old school and loving it.

Facility Evaluation, Criteria and Notes:

Positive Image and Identity: Old school and loving it.
Welcoming and Inviting Entry: Entry is confusing and chilly despite art and light.
Functionality and Efficiency:  Plenty of room for all services except computer teaching lab.
Flexibility and Adaptability:  Building is old, staff would like more power and data outlets.
Variety of Spaces to Cater for Different Users and Uses, Social and People-Centered:  Group study spaces, formal collaborative space, and teaching and presentation spaces are not present. Provides  study space and laptop space, lots of conversation areas, decent commitment to public PCs
A Sense of Place and Inspiration: Right now the library has 3-4 different art exhibits mounted.  How could you fail to be inspired?
Environmental Comfort and Sustainability: Old building, probably freezing in the winter.
Access, Safety and Security:  Efforts made to accommodate ADA.  Had to ask where restrooms were.
Integration of Technologies:   No room for AV production, computer classes, or fab lab, but that space could be carved out in a building this large.  This would be a perfect library if they replace all of their furniture at once, and carved out six new spaces.
